This year Merritt Brown is focusing on increasing student led classroom discussions. This is a research-based strategy to increase student participation and create classrooms alive with dialogue, inquiry, and respect for students' minds.
Merritt Brown also has quite a few teachers that have added flexible seating in their classrooms. This allows students to work more comfortably and choose how they want to sit instead of always sitting in a desk. Flexible seating includes sofas, futons, bean bags, bistro sets, and even tables that allow students to choose to stand as they work. Teachers say that students come early to class so they get first choice on where to sit!
Additionally, this summer, teachers volunteered to brighten our courtyard by painting benches and bulletin boards lively shades of blue and orange which added a nice touch.
If your child will be absent, please call the school or send a note so the absence will be excused. Four or more unexcused absences can keep a student from attending a dance or a reward trip.
Also, while those absences are excused, they are counted as an absence. Therefore, absences excused or not, do not constitute perfect attendance.
Yearbooks $35.00. You can pay in 3 installments or full price on the website.
