Oakland Terrace received a C for the 2008/2009 school year.  However, 97% of AYP criteria was met.  This was an increase of 18% from  79% to 97% AYP mastery.   

Reading • 65% of students reading at or above grade level 
• 65% of students making a year's worth of progress in reading 
• 61% of struggling students making a year's worth of progress in reading  
      
Math • 66% of students at or above grade level in math 
• 54% of students making a year's worth of progress in math 
• 65% of struggling students making a year's worth of progress in math 
  The total students subgroup in this school need improvement in Math.  

Writing • 80% of students scored 3.0 or better in writing.
51% of students scored 3.5 or better in writing. 
  The percentage of students scoring 3 or better on FCAT Writing needed to increase by 1% for Oakland Terrace to meet AYP criteria in writing.  Oakland Terrace did meet this criteria, improving from 63% to 80%.
 
Science • 36% of students at or above grade level in Science.

Title I schools may consolidate and use funds from Federal, State and local sources in order to upgrade the entire educational program of the school.  The following schools are Title I school-wide program schools:  Cedar Grove Elementary, Lucille Moore Elementary, Oakland Terrace Elementary, Patterson Elementary, Springfield Elementary, Waller Elementary, St. Andrew School and New Horizons Learning Center.

Oakland Terrace Elementary School for the Visual and Performing Arts

Mission

The mission of Oakland Terrace School for the Visual and Performing Arts is to foster lifelong learning in all students by promoting creativity and excellence in academics, character education, and fine arts which will prepare them to be productive, ethical, and responsible citizens.

Oakland Terrace is committed to the mastery of the Sunshine State Standards and to providing a challenging and comprehensive child-centered curriculum, sensitive to individual needs and distinguished by its emphasis on the arts and problem solving. The goal is to integrate the study of the arts in the regular academic areas of language arts, math, social studies, and science as new skills are introduced. In addition, students will participate in music, dance, physical education, drama, visual arts, and technology.

  • Student learning is the chief priority for the school and the students’ learning needs should impact all decisions.
  • Students learn in different ways and the curriculum and instructional practices should incorporate a variety of learning activities to accommodate differences in learning styles.
  • Each student is a valued individual with unique cultural, physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs.
  • A student’s self-esteem is enhanced by positive relationships and mutual respect among and between students and staff.
  • The commitment to continuous improvement is imperative if our school is going to enable students to become confident, self-directed, and lifelong learners.
