Special Events The month of February is School Choice Open Enrollment month. At that time, parents may enroll their child for the 2008-2009 school year. Breakfast Point Academy, which is a new K-6 school, will open this fall. Every child has unique educational needs and today there are options to find the school that best meets those needs. School Choice gives children from kindergarten through 12th grade the opportunity to receive a quality education that promotes their individual talents and interests. Parents may find out what school choice options are available for their child by contacting the Bay District Schools School Choice Office at 872-4328. Registration for Breakfast Point Academy Pre-Kindergarten Registration On Monday, February 4, 2008, the Bay District School system will begin collecting names for the Fall 2008 Pre-Kindergarten Program. Parents may place their child’s name on the waiting list by calling the Pre-K Department at 872-4201 or 872-4358 between 7:30 AM and 4:30 PM Monday - Friday. Applications may also be placed via the computer at www.bay.k12.fl.us/prek. Application information will not be accepted prior to February 4, 2008. Pre K is offered at 22 school sites: Hutchinson Beach Elementary School, Breakfast Point Academy, Deane Bozeman School, Callaway Elementary School, Cedar Grove Elementary School, Hiland Park Elementary School, J.R. Arnold High School, Lucille Moore Elementary School, Lynn Haven Elementary School, Merriam Cherry Street Elementary School, Millville Elementary School, Northside Elementary School, Oakland Terrace School for the Visual & Performing Arts, Oscar Patterson Elementary School, Parker Elementary School, Patronis Elementary School, Southport Elementary School, Springfield Elementary School, Tommy Smith Elementary School, Tyndall Elementary School, Waller Elementary School and West Bay Elementary School. To qualify, children must be 4 years old on or before September 1, 2008. Openings for the program are limited. The School
District Pre K Program offers the choice of the free Voluntary Pre-K
Program or a combination of the Free Voluntary Pre-K Program with a
fee pay program. For more information about Pre K, call 872 4201 or 872 4358. Free Summer Pre-K Program with Bay District Schools Panama City, FL- If your child missed attending Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) during the school year, he or she is eligible for the free Voluntary Pre K Program offered by Bay District Schools during the summer. Children that turn 5 years old on or before September 1, 2008, and did not attend a Voluntary Pre K Program during the school year are eligible for the 300 hour free summer program. The VPK program is not required but is offered as a free service by the State of Florida. The program will be offered
at four elementary school sites; Hiland Park, Northside, Parker and
Patronis elementary schools. The program will operate Monday - Friday,
from 7:30 am 4:00 pm and will begin June 9, 2008, and will end August
4, 2008. Free breakfast and lunch are provided. Transportation is not
provided for the summer program. Children will be taught using developmentally
appropriate practices with VPK Standards in an effort to prepare children
for a successful, smooth entry into kindergarten. For more information call the Bay District Schools’ Pre K Office at 872 4201. Registration for children who will be attending Bay District Schools’ kindergarten for the 2008-2009 school year is currently underway. Parents should register their children at their neighborhood elementary school. To attend kindergarten, students must be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2008. To register, parents will need to provide their child’s birth certificate and social security number, and two proofs of residency. On or before the first day of school, each kindergarten student must present to the school a Florida Immunization Certificate and proof of a physical examination dated within the last 12 months. Both documents are provided by the family doctor or health clinic that cares for the child.
