The Administrative Office Specialist program is designed to prepare students for a career in business administration as an administrative assistance.  An administrative assistant is a person whose job is to support an executive, group, department, or organization by coordinating office services and procedures.  The Administrative Office Specialist program offers a sequence of courses that provide coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills.   The Administrative Office Specialist student will learn how to complete office procedures tasks in an efficient manner using advance software applications.  The program includes the use of technology to develop communication skills, higher level thinking skills, and decision making skills.  The student will have the opportunity to become certified as a Microsoft Office Specialist in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and certified in QuickBooks Pro. 

Some of the duties performed by an Administrative Office Specialist include:

·         Answer telephones and direct phone calls

·         Produce and distribute correspondence, memos, letters, and forms

·         Schedule appointments and update event calendars

·         Maintain databases and filing systems

·         Perform basic bookkeeping

·         Take dictation

·         Research and create presentations

·         Prepare and monitor invoices and expense reports

·         Ensure operation of equipment

·         Maintain supplies inventory

·         Generate reports on behalf of the manager

·         Handle sensitive information in a confidential manner

Age: 16 years or older

Basic Skills: Unless exempt, students' competency in reading, math, and language are assessed within six (6) weeks of program entry using the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE). Required basic skill grade levels are: Reading 10A, Math 10A, and Language 10A.
