Automotive Collision Technology Technician

The full Automotive Collision Repair and Refinishing program prepares students for employment within the fast-growing, highly-competitive automotive industry as well as other fields such as boat building and industrial settings.

Topics of instruction include:

Auto Collision Technician

  • Straighten, repair and replace body parts
  • Work with modern uni-body construction and body-over-frame vehicles
  • Align damaged uni-bodies and frame

Skills to Acquire

  • Metal straightening techniques
  • Use of plastic fillers
  • Plastic panel repair
  • MIG welding
  • Sheet metal replacement

Automotive Refinishing Technician

  • Prepare vehicles for refinishing
  • Apply primers/sealers
  • Apply enamels, urethanes and base-coat/clear coat paints
Skills to Acquire
  • Use of sandpapers and related tools
  • Masking vehicles
  • Use of painting equipment
  • Spraying single-stage, two-stage and multi-stage paints
  • Solving paint problems

Today's cars are complex and require highly-skilled collision and refinishing technicians to repair them. Math skills are necessary.  Reading and analytical skills are a must, as well as good hand-eye coordination.  This course prepares a student for entry into a rewarding profession.

This program is a planned sequence of instruction consisting of six (6) occupational completion points (OCPs).

Age: 16 years or older

Basic Skills: Unless exempt, students' competency in reading, math, and language are assessed within six (6) weeks of program entry using the Wonderlic.

Jeffery McGeeOriginally from Huntington, Tennessee, and a graduate of Tennessee College of Applied Technology, Mr. McGee has more than 23 years of experience in the Collision Repair Industry, with 12 years as an Automotive Collision Repair business owner.
