A truly hands-on experience, your training will include working on patrons in a fully equipped salon setting. You'll learn everything from hair design and coloring to skin and nail care.  Our experienced certified instructors will guide you through each step and will make sure that all safety procedures ae taught and followed.You will be fully prepared to take the state licensing exam, and we can help with job placement.  Whether you're just starting your career or looking for something new, the power to change your future is in your hands. The program is 1200 hours in length.  There are three classes each year.  The program is designed to train students through a sequential set of learning tasks necessary for State board preparation, graduation, and entry-level job skills.  Within the program, subjects will be presented by means of lecture, demonstration, and student participation. Learning tools include audiovisual aids, guest speakers, field trips, projects, activities, textbook and workbook, periodicals, charts and service sheets, computer, handouts, etc.  Lab equipment, implements and products are comparable to those used in the industry.  The course is designed to follow the Florida Department of Cosmetology and the Florida Department of Education frameworks.  At the satisfactory completion of the program, the student will be granted a Certificate of Completion, which will allow the student to become eligible to take the Florida State Board of Cosmetology examination and become successfully emplyed as a Cosmetologist.  

Some of the duties performed by a Cosmetologist include:

  • Take appointments
  • Greet clients
  • Perform multiple services
  • Be able to formulate
  • Knowledge of terminology
  • Must maintain a 75 average

Program Structure
The program is a planned sequence of instruction consisting of one (1) Occupational Completion Point (OCP) and four (4) courses.

Basic Skills: Unless exempt, students' competency in reading, math, and language are assessed within six (6) weeks of program entry using the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE). Required basic skill grade levels are: Reading 9, Math 8, and Language 8.

About The Instructor
Mrs. Louise York, Cosmetology Instructor

Mrs. York has a total of 45 continuing years experience in Cosmetology.  She was employed 29 of those years with Regis Corporation with 20 of those years in management as well as a District Supervisor with the company.  Her duties in this position was opening new salons as well as training new stylists.  The last 16 years has been in a teaching position at Haney Technical Center.



Mrs. Gina Dudley, Cosmetolgy Instructor

Mrs. Dudley has a total of 36 years of experience in Cosmetology.  She has 21 years behind the chair, and 9 of those years she was a manager of a salon and 15 years of teaching.  This is her 6th year of teaching at Haney Technical Center.




Mrs. Teresa Fowler, Cosmetology InstructorMrs. Fowler is a 1991 cosmetology graduate from the Bay Area Vocational Technical School at Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Before beginning her career at Haney Technical Center she was self employed as a cosmetologist for 7 years.  Her experience prior to self employment was for 14 years a master stylist with the Regis Corportation.
