Counseling

Counselors are available to assist students and prospective students with course selection, educational planning, and any concerns they may have regarding Haney. Counselors work with students in a confidential manner to explore career aspirations, aptitudes, interests, and any special concerns. Counselors are located on the first floor of Building 1during regularly scheduled day and evening hours.

Career Center 

The Career Center, located on the first floor of Building 1, is available for all Haney students and staff. There are “Internet ready” computers available with resume software. The Career Specialist will help a student build a personalized resume, provide interviewing tips, job search assistance and career guidance. The CHOICES program, which provides interest areas and career fields that fit an individual's choice, can be utilized by any student. Campus tours and career days are coordinated through the Career Center.

Media Center

A centralized Media Center serves as a general reference center and study area for all students. Materials housed in this facility include technical materials, personal enrichment materials, access to the Internet for educational purposes, textbooks for high school students and areas for general reading materials such as magazines, newspapers, etc. The Media Center is open from 7:15 a.m. – 2:45 p.m. Monday through Friday and is located on the third floor of Building 1.

Graduation

Graduation exercises are held at the end of each academic year. All students that complete their program of training and have met State TABE requirements, earn a GED or high school diploma are expected to participate. Family and friends are encouraged to attend this ceremony.

Adult General Education

Adult General Education classes provide academic enhancement and support to Haney's training programs. The classes are designed to assist students who need to improve their basic skills in order to succeed in their technical programs or to meet state mandated academic requirements in reading, mathematics and language. The classes also prepare students who wish to pass the GED Test. They are student oriented, allowing students to progress at their own rate. Adult General Education offers resources necessary to assist students in achieving academic skills and becoming workplace ready.

Transportation

In compliance with Bay District School Board Policy 7.205, bus drop-off and pick-up will be provided for Haney Technical Center and Haney Technical High School students only. Students will follow all bus rules established by the driver. Students are to remain seated at all times while on the bus. Remember: riding the bus is a privilege, not a right. Bus drop off and pick up will be in the rear of Building 1. Buses will not leave before school is dismissed. There will be no need to leave class early in order to catch the bus. If a student is left at school, the student must make other arrangements to get home. Students wishing to ride a bus different from the one assigned must have a permission slip from home and approval from a school administrator. Students must see an administrator before 1:00 p.m. to obtain permission. Transportation can also be arranged with Bay Coordinated (785-0808) and Bay Town Trolley (769-0557).

Parking

(Bay District School Board Policy 7.307) Students are to park in designated parking areas only. Students who park in unauthorized areas may lose the privilege of parking on campus and/or the car may be towed at the expense of the student. No student may loiter in or around vehicles in the parking area or areas. Students shall not occupy vehicles during class hours, between classes, or before or after school, except as they arrive and leave for the school day. Students may not smoke in their vehicles on school property. If a student fails to observe the procedures herein, the principal may revoke his/her privilege of driving a vehicle to school. Please lock your car while on campus. A Student Vehicle Use Policies form must be signed and a parking decal must be purchased for $5.00 in Student Services.

Food Services

The cafeteria is located in Building 9. A variety of items are available at reasonable prices for breakfast, break, and lunch. Soft drink and snack machines are available for adult students throughout the Center. Meal prices are:
Adult Breakfast: 1.50
Adult Lunch: 3.25

Veterans' Benefits

Most programs at Tom P. Haney Technical Center are approved for training of qualified veterans. The Center's Veterans' Certifying Official (located in the Student Services on the 1st floor of Building 1) will explain attendance policies, grade requirements, and other information.

Transcripts

A student may request, in writing, an official transcript of his/her school record. This request should be addressed to the Guidance Department. A Transcript Request Form is available in the Guidance Department. The transcript will be sent directly to the institution where the student plans to register or to any other official agency. The student may also receive an individual copy of his/her transcript. The cost for each transcript will be $5.00.
