Here are the required and recommended vaccines for your child as he or she enters the 2015-2016 School Year.
- Tdap vaccine is required for 7th instead of the older Tetanus and diphtheria (Td) vaccine. (Regardless of the interval since the last tetanus- or diphtheria-toxoid containing vaccine). We recommend your child gets their 2nd VZV out of the way at the same time as the required Tdap.
- The 2-dose VZV (Varicella/Chickenpox).
- HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccine is available to 9-18 year old girls and boys. This vaccine prevents infection by HPV that causes 70% of all cervical cancers. The HPV vaccine is a series of three doses given over a six month period.
- Meningococcal vaccine protects against meningitis and is given at 11-12 years of age. Many colleges require this prior to entry.
These shots are available at the Florida Department of Health Bay County (at no charge) or at your private physician's office. After your child has been immunized, please return the completed immunization 680 form to your child's school.
FLORIDA LAW DOES NOT ALLOW ANYONE TO ATTEND SEVENTH GRADE WITHOUT HAVING THE REQUIRED Tdap and 2nd VZV!
