Instructional Goals and Philosophy
This is a Career & Life Skills Class. The student is an employee and the classroom is their workplace. Their paycheck is their point sheet. The report cards serve as their performance review. The main message is that acquiring good work ethics will result in a good job with good compensation in the real world of work.
Message to the Parents of My Students
Students will gain real life applications and working knowledge of skills needed to make it in the 21^st Century. Understanding that the next workforce generation will be require to have a greater knowledge of math, reading, writing, and reasoning skills to be successful in a global economy.
Upcoming Class Events
Welcome to the Wonderful World of Work. We will be discussing business plans, policies and procedures of mega corporations and the operations of an entrepreneur. Students will have hands-on activities of how to get and keep a job with preparation of applications, cover letters, interviews, and resumes. Students will be exploring careers including their nature of work and its environment. We will tackle personal finance subjects such as retirement plans, taxes, savings and loans plans. Students will apply their skills when they fill out a 1040EZ, apartment rental, loan applications, and other forms of interest. Some students will have the opportunity to go on Transition Fairs, Job Fairs, and School to Careers Workshops.
