I would like to introduce myself. I am Anna Prevost and I am the new Assistant Principal at New Horizons. I am not new to New Horizons, two years ago I was a High School Reach teacher here. I then left and became an Administrative Assistant at Bozeman School. I have taught at many schools in the district. I was the In-school Suspension teacher at Jinks, I taught math and science at the Boot Camp and A.D. Harris. During the summers and holidays I have substituted at St. Andrews, Margaret K. Lewis and the Bay County Detention Center. When I was interviewed there were 7 possible locations for which I might have been selected. I told the interview committee that New Horizons was my first choice. I am so lucky to have gotten my first choice. I am looking forward to a great year as a Tiger! |

The start of a new year is always an exciting time and a challenging one too. The year opens with the promise of all the possibilities that a new year of learning brings: New skills, new ideas and another year on the path of our students to adulthood. Over the nine years that New Horizons has been in operation we have had the chance to see our students grow and mature into young adults. My faculty and I are proud to report that last May we had nine students that graduated from New Horizons. These are students who needed another path to graduation, and we are proud to have provided that opportunity for them. As the year progresses, parents and friends of New Horizons, remember that we are here for one reason: that is the students that we serve. Please encourage your children to attend school everyday, and when here, take advantage of the programs we offer. Working together we can make a difference in the education of your child. |

What is a Mentor? A mentor is a volunteer who is a role model, friend, and support to a student. Nationwide research shows that a young person who meets with a mentor is: 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs 27% less likely to begin drinking alcohol 52% less likely to skip school 33% less likely to engage in a fight. Mentoring in this complex world is a simple way to make a difference! We believe our mentoring program has a positive impact that will last a lifetime for both the student and the mentor. Ms. Tidmore and Ms. Hughley “To laugh often and love much; to win the respect of intelligent persons and the affection of children, to earn the approbation of honest critics; to appreciate beauty; to give of one’s self, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or redeemed social condition; to have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived –that is to have succeeded. Gov Jeb Bush and State Rep. Allan Bense visited New Horizons Learning Center on Friday, August 19th, 2005. Gov. Jeb Bush came here to visit with our Mentors and their Students. While they were here, they popped in on Mrs. Blanchard's classroom and Gov. Jeb Bush read to her students. Their presence here at NHLC was an uplift to our students and staff members. We will be inspired by this visit for years to come. We wish to thank all of those who made this day possible. |
