A Brief History of Hutchison Beach Elementary School
Hutchison Beach Elementary School rests on a ten acre tract of land donated by its namesake Judge Ira Hutchison. Opening in 1956, the school plant consisted of three permanent classrooms that were financed and built by the Beach Business Men's club. The Bay County School Board provided the lunchroom and three portable classrooms. First year enrollment was one hundred eighty students in grades one through six. Six teachers comprised the instructional staff.
Today, student enrollment is 600+ students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade.
A complex of buildings houses an office suite, 35 permanent classrooms, 6 portable classrooms, a media center, three computer labs, a free standing gymnasium with a track and basketball court, a music building, and a cafeteria/ kitchen area. The certified instructional staff includes a Principal; Assistant Principal; a Guidance Counselor; Media Specialist; teachers of Music, Physical Education, and Computers; 5 teachers for Learning Disabilities/ESOL; two teachers for Speech/Language Pathologists; two teachers for regular Pre-Kindergarten; one Talented/Gifted teacher; and 37 regular classroom teachers. The support staff includes an Administrative Secretary, a Data Clerk, a Clerk3(general offfice), an ESE Clerk, 11 paraprofessionals; a Food Services Manager; 4 food service workers, a head custodian and two custodial staff members make up the support personnel.
