Bay High's Advanced College Track (ACT)
ADMISSION PROCEDURES
The admission process is designed to provide the best possible opportunity for an applicant and his/her family to understand the Advanced College Track program and for the admission committee to understand each applicant’s educational background and interest. It is our hope that both the family and the school be satisfied that the right match has been made for the student’s successful education.
As a Bay District Schools academic program, ACT admits any student who meets admission standards and resides within Bay County, Florida. Students living in surrounding school districts must have the approval of the Bay District Schools to attend the ACT program at Bay High School. At the current time, transportation is not provided for this program.
Florida School Choice Open Enrollment Period
This application should be completed and returned to your middle or high school counselor prior to the close of the open enrollment period. It is the applicant’s responsibility to get Teacher Recommendation forms to his/her teachers for completion. Teacher recommendations are confidential and should not be returned to ACT via the student. Teachers may mail recommendations to ACT or turn them into their school counselor to forward them via the district courier services.
Review of Academic Record
Each candidate for admissions will have an academic record review by the admissions committee. A student currently attending school outside of Bay County should request that a transcript be sent to the ACT program at Bay High School. A student must maintain a minimum of a B average or a 3.0 GPA to be considered for admission.
Standardized Test Results
Each candidate must have standardized tests results that can be reviewed by the admissions committee. Preferred scores are: FCAT, PSAT, SAT, ACT, or CPT; however, out-of-state scores can be submitted via the CAT, Iowa, Stanford or other pre-approved test. Scores will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, but students using FCAT scores should provide a score of 3 or better.
Attendance and Discipline Records
The high expectations of the ACT program require that a student display mature behavior representative of regular attendance and satisfactory discipline records. Many of the courses students take in this program are college courses, and the student falls under the college code of conduct. Students can be removed from the program for violations of conduct and attendance policies.
Teacher/Counselor Letter of Recommendation
Using the attached form on page 3, students will submit one letter of recommendation to a current teacher and their guidance counselor. The counselor should forward the letter to the coordinator via the courier.
Program Acceptance
Letters of notification will be sent to students as soon as enrollment decisions are finalized.
Questions should be addressed to the guidance office at Bay High School, your counselor, or the Advanced College Track program coordinator at 872-4600. Our web address is www.bayschools.com/bhs/ACT_Now.
