
Bay High offers several foreign language courses for its students.
Courses:
- Latin I
- The course introduces students to Latin vocabulary, grammar, history, mythology and Roman life and initiates an opportunity to learn translational skills. Special emphasis is placed on English vocabulary building through the study of Latin roots and prefixes.
- Latin II
- The course continues on the foundation from Latin I, developing further skill in the Latin language and Roman culture. Special emphasis is placed on applications of Latin to American usage in the fields of medicine, law, and everyday Latin expressions.
- Latin III
- The course builds on the foundations of Latin I & II, with emphasis on additional grammar and literacy techniques essential to the ability to read, translate, and appreciate Latin literature.
- Latin IV / AICE Latin Language
- Using the foundation laid in Latin I-III , the course begins the reading of Latin literature, primarily selections from Books I and II of the Aeneid by Virgil.
- Advanced Placement Latin / AICE Latin Literature
- This course is the culmination of the preparations from Latin I-IV. Selections from Books IV, VI, X, and XII of the Aeneid are read in depth and analyzed. Two written papers are required during the course.
- Spanish I
- The course introduces students to the Spanish language and culture and provides opportunities to begin to develop their skills in reading, writing, and speaking the language.
- Spanish II
- The course further pursues the study of the Spanish language and culture, with focus on additional oral and aural expression.
- Spanish III
- The course continues on the foundations of Spanish I and II, progressively building the student's skills in listening, speaking, writing, and analyzing the language and literature.
