The Visual Arts component of the Bay High Academy of Arts & Sciences is comprised of core classes that focus on Drawing, Painting ranging from fundamental to advanced work, and Photography. The photography section is taught both in the AICE area of study as well as Advanced Placement. In either area, the classes are taught dual enrolled.

Drawing classes are designed to develop the student's understanding of the basic principles of proportion, form, gesture and composition. The course structure develops the student's ability to draw from observation. Painting students will learn various methods of media application and color schemes while reinforcing the utilization of the fundamental concepts of two-dimensional design in rendering pictorial space.

Set upon a pre-requisite schedule, students may only advance on teacher recommendation of proficiency and have the required grades. Advanced Placement (AP) is a required senior level class.

Instructors:

The photography component of the Visual Arts Academy is a traditional 35mm, black & white film discipline. Students will shoot their own film on fully manual cameras, develop the film and make their own prints in a darkroom environment. There are four levels of traditional film photography, all of which are dual enrolled (3 college credits for each high school credit). Students can also take the advanced levels of this class as a part of AICE Art & Design, or Advanced Placement.
Future classes will include digital photography combined with a partnering class in PhotoShop. This class will assist in obtaining a passing score in AP, and will be dual enrolled at two levels.
