The Bay High School Science Club (BHSSC) exists for the purposes of encouraging scientific and intellectual thought, advancing knowledge of classical and modern science, communicating with the scientific community, aiding the civic community with its comprehension of science, and encouraging students to participate in community service and, in turn, encourage a dedication to the pursuit of scientific knowledge that benefits all of mankind.
Current Projects:
- Recycling Program: Science Club members are responsible for bringing a recycling program to Bay High School and are tasked with its maintenance. Over four tons of office paper was collected, transported, and monitored by last year's members. Future recycling efforts will include plastic, aluminum, and cardboard as part of a collaboration with the Panama City Rescue Mission.
- Sizzling Science: Members of the Science Club develop and demonstrate scientific concepts at the annual Sizzling Science Event at Gulf Coast Community College. Members organize and manage the logistics with other schools in the district. Students present interactive concepts of bilogy, chemistry, astronomy, physics, and environmental science to younger children in the community while working next to community leaders and college scientists to promote scientific literacy.
Requirements: Must currently/previously have been enrolled in a BHS science class, show high standards of conduct, responsibility, and character, possess and demonstrate a genuine interest in science, comply with the mandatory and regularly scheduled group meeting, participate in the activities planned by the club, and pay any club dues by the annually designated date.
Meeting Time/Place: Alternating Wednesdays after school in Room 302
