Can You Do the Dewey?

  Battle of the Books
Cedar Grove Elementary 4th grade students will participate in Bay District's third Battle of the Books in April, 2010. Congratulations to Bay Haven Charter School who won last year's battle. Our 4th graders are busy reading the 15 titles of the 2009-2010 State Sunshine Young Reader's Award books (SSYRA). Check out the BOB website for more information on the "battle!" Good Luck, Cedar Grove!

Artist Ibiyinka Alao Visits 
March 27, 2008

 

 Ibiyinka Olufemi Alao is an artist who recently represented his country — Nigeria — and became the first place winner of the prestigious United Nations International Art Competition amongst 61 countries. He spent time with 3rd, 4th & 5th graders as they painted and talked with him.

Open Library -
students come and go all day long. Classes are scheduled once a week for book check. K-2 students enjoy storytime and all students received library skills and book talks.

ITV Studio - Students present a TV program each morning. The studio is located in the Media Center.

Sunshine State Young Reader's Award

These books are available for students in grades 3-5. Students who read or have read to them three of these books have an opportunity to vote on their favorite book in April. For more information on this program visit the SSYRA website at: http://myssyra.org/

Children's Book Award

Students in grades K-2 participate in the Florida Reading Association sponsored Children's Book Award program. These students have eight books read to them and they vote on their favorite. Last years winner was

Honor Book - Gooey Jellyfish 

Accelerated Reader
Last year our students earned 16,353 points in the AR program. Students have goals set for each nine weeks and are rewarded for reaching their goal. Students are rewarded when they reach personal goals as well as classroom goals.
