History:
The first Lynn Haven School was organized in temporary quarters in 1913. This was a two-teacher school with benches for seating, and a wood burning stove provided heat for each room.
In 1915 a two-story frame building housing six classrooms was built on the present site. Students in grades 1-12 attended this school until 1923, when high school students were transported to the new Bay County High School.
The wooden building burned in 1944. The following year, classes were held any place a vacant room could be found. At that time the federal government helped in the construction of a new masonry building consisting of seven classrooms, a library, and a cafetorium. It is the "L" shaped building adjacent to the office, now known as building one.
Students in grades 1-8 attended until the junior high schools opened in 1950. Since then, additional facilities have been added to serve a continually growing area. The most recent addition was the new cafeteria and classrooms build in 1984. A PE pavilion was built in 1988. In addition, an extensive two-year, campus-wide renovation project was begun in 2000. A gym was built in 2001, with the help of the community and school board. In 1988, Lynn Haven Elementary celebrated its 75th anniversary.
Enrollment now stands at approximately 900 students in grades PreK-5.

Current Programs:
Lynn Haven Elementary currently has approximately 7-8 sections of each grade level. The average class size is about 18 students in kindergarten, 18 students in grades 1-2, and 22 students in grades 3-5. Programs are provided for students with a variety of services provided for exceptional student education, as well as standard curriculum education.
Students in kindergarten have a unique curriculum which is developmental, social, and academic. Students in grades 1-5 study the following: reading, language (English), spelling, math, social studies, science, health, and handwriting. During special area times students attend the following subjects on the wheel: physical education, music, and art. Current reading and math curricula focus on the Sunshine State Standards in those subjects.

Academic Achievements:
Even though we are very proud of our state-assigned school grade each year, please know there is so much more to judging a school than just that one factor. Our caring and dedicated staff work very hard to provide the best educational experience for your child and you!

Special School Efforts:
LHES maintains very active faculty and parent committees, all of which function to make student learning a paramount concern.
Committees include:
Discipline Committee - Our school has an excellent progressive discipline plan which promotes parent involvement and fairness and consistency to children.
Technology Committee - Each year this committee selects goals for technology implementation, works to meet those goals and continually strives to upgrade and augment technology throughout the school.
Student Activities Committee - This group has the fun task of helping to coordinate fun-filled events during the school year, such as the student talent show and also coordinating Soaring Eagle Days.
Other examples of student activities include our closed circuit television program and crew -- WFUN-TV, Chorus, Show Choir, 4th-5th grade Band, PE Club, Running Club, and Art Club.
School Advisory Council - This committee of teachers, staff, parents, and community members design, implement, and evaluate our yearly school improvement plan.

Last, but not least...
LHES has a BAY BASE (after school daycare program). For more information, please call the director, Jan Ladd, at 271-1561.
Parent involvement is encouraged through our very active PTO and volunteer programs. Room mom/dad meetings, orientation, and volunteer schedules are planned for the fall of the year.
Communication is so very important between home and school. We work very hard to produce a newsletter which has important information, events, news, and student recognition. Please look for the LHE newsletter to come home.
In short, we have a very caring staff who want to do their very best to provide the absolute best educational experiences for your child. We look forward to being your partner in your child's education!
