Drummond Park/Lucille Moore School from 1943 to 1997

- The Lucille Moore Elementary School opened at the beginning of the school year in 1943-44 as the Drummond Park School. Mr. J. Hugh Brock was the first principal and Mr. Merritt Brown Sr. was the Bay County Superintendent of Schools.
- The school was built during World War II to accommodate the influx of children of shipyard workers. The school originally served 1700 pupils, Grades one through eighth, who attended on a double-shift schedule. The main building contained 24 classrooms, a teacher's lounge, a health room and a cafeteria.
- In August of 1946 Miss Lucille Moore became principal and served for 21 years in that capacity. Under her administration a library, a cafeteria, and one classroom were added. Her diligence in beautifying the grounds led to an award in conservation.
- Because of her philosophy of education and the implementation of that philosophy, her school was selected as a pilot school to field test the accreditation standards for elementary schools for the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges. She was among the first in Bay County to recognize the need for special service areas (Music, Library, P.E., etc.) to balance the curriculum in the elementary schools.
- Through Miss Moore's continuing leadership as Assistant Superintendent of instruction she was able to broaden these concepts of education on a county wide basis. It was due to this leadership and devoted service that the Drummond Park School was officially named Lucille Moore Elementary School on September 10, 1969.
- In December 1995 construction begin on a new building for Lucille Moore School. The building and Parking lots was completed in Oct. 1997. Demolition of the old Lucille Moore School building begin the last week of April 1997.
- The new building is a state of the art in schools. It has high speed 100 MB through-put networking in all classrooms. There are over 400 computers in our school with more then 200 networked for intra-school file sharing and internet access. There are telephones and bathrooms in every classroom.
