School Advisory Council Minimize

Each school in Bay District Schools has a School Advisory Council comprised of parents, teachers, administrators, and students (middle and high schools). Parents comprise the majority of each School Advisory Council. The SAC membership is carefully monitored by the School Board.

The responsibility of the School Advisory Council is to provide parents, citizens, faculty, staff and students an opportunity to participate in the development of educational priorities, assessment of a school’s needs, and identification of local resources.
Training for School Advisory Council members and Administrators is provided annually as a district group and is available for individual councils upon request.

The School Advisory Council is a resource to the school and principal. The term “advisory” is intended to mean (1) inquiring, (2) informing, (3) suggesting, (4) recommending, and (5) evaluating. The school advisory council, since it is advisory only, has some limitations: (1) it may not dictate school board or local school center policy, and (2) it must deal with issues rather than particular persons whether they be administrators, teachers students, citizens or parents.

School Advisory Councils are to assist in the preparation and evaluation of the school improvement plan; assist in the preparation of educational improvement projects; and assist in the preparation of the school budget.
