Southport Elementary School is a beautiful neighborhood school located north of Panama City where academic excellence is accomplished by emphasizing character development of the individual and a school culture of respect and civility. Southport is a member of the Bay District School System in northwest Florida.  The enrollment is currently 420 students, serving pre-kindergarten through fifth grades.  The school welcomes all students and serves them well with small class sizes in twenty-five homeroom units.  We provide excellent enrichment and remedial services for students who are gifted and talented, or have specific learning disabilities, emotional handicaps, speech/language impairments, or need early intervention.

The school improvement goals encompass strategies for increased student achievement in the areas of reading, math, science, and writing. The curriculum and assessment strategies are based on the Florida Sunshine State Standards.

Southport Elementary promotes Service Learning and has earned statewide recognition for the school-wide service learning projects. Southport Elementary developed and implemented the nationally recognized character education program, “Keeping the Promise.”  Known for our patriotism and character development, Southport has teachers and staff who are highly qualified and experienced and who deliver quality curriculum and instruction, while caring for the student as a unique individual. Southport Elementary has exemplary music and art programs. The hand bell choir and Singing Sailors are in demand to perform at community functions. The school art program boasts many winners of local, state, and national contests. Samples of student artwork can be viewed in the ongoing art exhibit on display at the school.  A full-time Physical Education program emphasizes developing the whole child in body, mind, and spirit.  Southport’s creative media services include the technology and ITV studios. We also offer extended library hours for special events (FCAT Explorer, book fairs, parent workshops, etc.).  Active volunteer and PTO programs have given Southport Elementary the reputation of being the best community school in the area.  Southport Elementary, an “A” School for nine consecutive years, where “Keeping the Promise” is a way of life!
