PBS For Parents
Positive Behavior Support
What is PBS? It stands for Positive Behavior Support, which leans heavily toward positive reinforcement to teach kids appropriate behavior.
Our level of good behavior at West Bay is high, but we are striving to be excellent.
Research shows that discipline programs which include incentives for good behavior, work far more efficiently that those that dwell entirely on consequences. We do still have negative consequences for inappropriate behavior, but we are also looking at ways to reward excellent behavior.
S.O.A.R.
This is an acronym for: S – Safety, O – On Task, A – Always Respectful, and R – Responsible. These are our expectations for our children. After reviewing discipline data from last year, we found that a vast majority of our discipline problems came from the lunchroom and the bus.
Please refer to your student handbook for rules at school. Help us by talking with your children about good bus behavior, good lunchroom behavior, and good behavior at school in general. Ask your child about our SOAR tickets.
